Falconry Breaks
We have teamed up with one of the regions foremost Falconry Centres, Galloway Falconry to offer our guests an experience they will never forget! Catering for everyone from the absolute beginner to the experienced enthusiast and all those in between, we have different courses to suit all.
Take a break from the norm whether it be an hour “hawk walk” or a full five day course you are guaranteed an exciting trip experiencing the spectacular scenery and nature that Dumfries & Galloway offers whilst having the opportunity to handle these beautiful, majestic birds.
All Courses include:
- Welcome Drink Dinner
- Bed & Breakfast (2 nights) - (5 nights for 5 day course)
- Packed Lunch on the day of your "Experience"
- Transport to and from the Flying Grounds of your chosen Falconry Experience

Half Day Course
More in depth than the Hawk Walks, this is an opportunity to really learn about handling birds of prey. Time will be spent learning about the birds, their habitat, feeding habits and the equipment needed to fly them. The second half of the course will involve free-flying the birds -- £199 per person
One Day Course
Expanding on the half day course, the morning is spent learning about the birds and equipment with some free-flying. After lunch the birds are taken out into the countryside for some free flying or hunting. £259 per person
Expanded Coures—Two or Five Days
Suitable for anyone who wants to keep their own birds of prey, these courses cover every aspect of falconry including equipment, first aid, suitable weatherings and aviaries as well as bird maintenance. 2 day course—£350 per person, 5 day course—£799 per person.
Alternatively, during your stay at The Murray Arms, you can sample the delights of falconry with family or friends by taking in a Hawk Walk, lasting approximately 1 hour, this is the perfect introduction to birds of prey and the art of falconry. Some time is spent getting used to the birds and equipment before taking a short walk with a bird on the arm. It may be possible to free-fly the birds. Minimum Party of 6—£30 per person.
