Recently renovated, with a cosy wood burning stove and fantastic views over the countryside.
Pros: Location and property were lovely. Recently renovated, with a cosy wood burning stove and fantastic views over the countryside. Stocked with games and information leaflets about nearby attractions. Comfortable beds and great showers were appreciated after long days of activities. All in is a perfect getaway accommodation and a great base for exploring all Dumfries has to offer.
Cons: Although as a group we brought everything we needed, the property could definitely do with home comforts and basic items for long, group stays. Kitchen is poorly equipped for cooking. The fridge froze over then defrosted soaking everything. The pots are not suited to induction cooking. Can opener and grater are broken. Chopping boards desperately need replacing, knives are blunt and broken. It lacks very basic equipment such as a colander. Other than tea, instant coffee sachets and UHT milk there are no store cupboard items so bring everything you need to cook. The nearest supermarket is 10 miles away. There is no access to additional bin bags (there was 1), extra towels, dish towels or bedding. Guests were stuck with duvets in hot weather. More garden furniture would facilitate outdoor eating or for allowing more than 2 people sitting outside when wet weather inevitably happens and you can’t sit on the grass. The property is located on an abandoned farm so take care with little kids. Also be prepared to have to drive your rubbish and recycling to the wheelie bins!

In general, a lovely place to stay, well worth a visit, but drive to house needs attention.
Pros: House was spacious and comfortable. Views were fantastic. We were blessed with a clear night sky the first night which was just amazing. Most described beds as very comfortable. The kitchen had everything needed for cooking and tidying up after. The heating kept the place warm. Enjoyed the wood burner.
Cons: The worst thing was probably the road up to the house. We would have appreciated notice that it was a dirt track full of deep potholes. Not having a 4x4 it was rather precarious each time we came in and out. Would recommend fixing the road to be more stable, especially in wet weather. The single room mattress was not very comfortable. The lounge seating was ok but could have been more comfortable, perhaps a cosy armchair.
