The Wayside and Whisky Barn

Pros: We loved our stay at the Wayside and genuinely look forward to returning. The accommodation, service and food was 10/10. We stayed in ‘Buttermere’, the blue room, which had the best view over Black Combe. It felt like a home away from home. Emiko was such an accommodating host, friendly and very informative on things to do in the Lake District. Doreen was also a delight to meet! Our pre-arranged evening meal and breakfast (included in the booking) were both divine, using quality ingredients. If you want a peaceful stay in a remote area of the western lakes, stay here!

Cons: Nothing!

Pros: Great location, spotlessly clean, best breakfast ever, kind and thoughtful owner.

Cons: Nothing to dislike, it was idyllic.

Pros: We had a beautiful stay here and I could not recommend it enough!! Our room was beautiful and spacious and the whole property was exceptionally clean. The food was phenomenal! We had dinner and breakfast here and both were exceptional. A great range of drinks in the bar (especially the whisky!). Emiko was a wonderful host, who attended to all our needs. She is incredibly knowledgeable about the surrounding areas and whisky and couldn’t do enough to help! Thank you so much for making our stay so special!

We had a beautiful quiet stay. Accommodation was immaculate and Emiko was the perfect host.

Pros: The breakfast was delicious, freshly cooked to order and quality ingredients were used. We were also offered more toast and tea.

Peaceful and Charming

Pros: Meeting Emiko the host and enjoying her personal knowledge of whisky. Feel lucky that she was kind to share her time and thoughts with us and ofcourse the delicious whisky. Best scrambled eggs I have ever tasted. Peaceful and comfortable stay with gorgeous views. We felt very welcome from check in to check out and I would recommend staying here to everyone. The hostess at dinner and breakfast was also super lovely and great for offering recommendations of places to visit.

Pros: Barn style building, very attractive inside and out. All areas of the hotel were immaculate and comfortable. Our room and en-suite were spacious and well appointed. Great value for money.

Cons: Never stated this before about hotel accommodation, but can honestly say we cannot fault anything. The bedroom and communal areas were excellent and the food was beautifully cooked and presented. The owners clearly take pride in their business.

Superb base to explore the Western Lake District

Pros: This was our first time in the Western Lake ,District and the location of the Wayside is ideal for exploring the local area. Emiko does a fantastic job and the accommodation is superb. The food choice is good and the quality of the food was excellent, I've never had a better sea bass fillet!

Cons: Not really something we didn't like but the check in time of 4pm and the checkout time of 10am does not allow a lot of time to enjoy the facilities if you are staying for just one night.
