A wonderful experience

Great location, great hosts, great food from breakfast to evening meal.

Pros: The location is amongst the most beautiful Lake District scenery. The 400 year old hotel is full of character, sloping floors and quirky additions.

Cons: Not all rooms have en-suite bathrooms but some rooms have private bathrooms outside your room nearby. This was not a problem for us and we quickly adjusted to this.

Great central Lakes location

Pros: Very friendly service. It's an old building, so expect loads of character, with a large garden. Also big lounge area, with good library and bar / tea making & snacks facilities. They also do a dinner service which looked very good, but didn't allow dogs in the dining room, which I could understand as everyone is sat together around two communal tables, with not much spare room, once fully occupied. Fortunately there is a good pub which takes dogs next door.

Brilliant. I had met up with two friends who joined us for dinner and they felt very welcomed.

Pros: This small hotel is comfortable, warm and friendly. The relaxed vibe is supported by the quiet efficiency of the owner and staff. Everything we needed was catered for. The breakfasts were delicious. We couldn’t stay for evening meals this visit but the other visitors were very complimentary. Will definitely return.
