YHA Helvellyn

Very enjoyable. A great base to climb Helvellyn.

Pros: We loved the breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff. Location was brilliant .

Cons: The road to the hostel was very difficult to drive on.

Cons: WiFi not great but hotel is 963ft above sea level (1/3 up Helvellyn) so what do you expect.

Pretty good for a hostel!

Pros: Great facilities for a hostel, with a colourful bar and restaurant area.

Cons: Pretty rugged track to get to it, and WiFi is very slow and not available in the bedrooms.

An ideally located base to ascend Helvellyn.

Pros: The hostel is ideally situated with access to Helvellyn. It is quiet and tranquil with only the river for background sounds. The room was comfortable, clean and well heated. Breakfast was generous and a good start to a day's walking. There was plenty of hot water for a shower after a long day on the hills. Staff were very friendly, cheerful and welcoming.

Cons: I thought the evening meals were unimpressive with the exception of the burger and beer deal which was good value. (Though the advert shows two burgers and the meal only has one!) There was a lack of choice and although I didn't expect cuisine I should have liked to see a hearty shepherds pie or the like. There was a distinct lack of vegetables. The vegetable curry was small and dry lacking in sauce. The absence from breakfast was porridge which is surprising given that most of the visitors are walkers.

Pros: Cameron is a great host, would recommend staying here.

Pros: The location is beautiful, felt like a real adventure. All the staff members were incredibly nice and helpful, we truly felt welcomed. We were surprised to find out that there is a bar that offers a couple of meals – a great bonus since it is quite far to walk to a restaurant or shop. We paid extra for a breakfast, which was very good and felt like good value. There were also games we could borrow in the dining area to pass time in the evening after a hike.

Pros: Fantastic staff. Amazing location. Cozy and welcoming hostel.

Cons: Only slight gripe was that there didn't seem to be a compost/food waste bin.
