This Lakeland slate house is 0.5 miles above Buttermere village, and ideal for the famous Haystacks walk. YHA Buttermere has a bar/restaurant with views of the Red Pike and High Stile mountains. Accommodation is in dormitory rooms, or private rooms with a shared bathroom. The majority of rooms contain bunk beds. A laundry facility and a lounge area are all on site. For making your own meals, YHA Buttermere also has a self-catering kitchen. Local ales and wines are served in the bar/restaurant. Walks of all levels start from Buttermere village, which is in a quieter area of the Lake District. Red squirrels and woodpeckers can often be spotted in the grounds. Wonderful stay again at the hostel. I’d recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet and relaxing getaway.

Pros: I’ve stayed here multiple times and each time is just fantastic. It is such a peaceful and comfortable place to stay.

Cons: Nothing - it was great.

Perfect location with good facilities for walking in Lakes

Pros: Great location, excellent drying room and facilities well laid out

Cons: Nothing in particular, only small point was bar limited and expensive but good pub not far away. Also thought porridge would be on offer at breakfast and as didn’t have muesli either meant cereal offering was rather limited.

I stayed a few times and I will be back again.

Pros: This is one of the finest locations in the Lake District. The hostel is lovely, perfect for hikers.

Cons: The WiFi signal is poor but it's not their fault. It's a problem in the area I guess

Beautiful Buttermere

Pros: Location was perfect, walking distance from so many beautiful walks, friendly staff

Cons: No power or lights in my room & a few others on the last night, and staff weren’t able to get it working again until the next morning

Pros: Large drying room, comfortable beds, great location, very helpful staff

Pros: Sol traveller felt safe and secure . Car parking facilities. Clean and friendly would definitely stop again

Cons: Toilets could have been slightly cleaner. This doesn't come down to the staff it's comes from.others not leaving them the way they found them
