Set your watch to 1985 and walk the fells

Pros: This is an iconic hotel which is unspoiled by progress located in a perfect place for fell walkers. Take yourself back to yester-year and enjoy life without being connected to much except nature. Extensive and sumptuous breakfast and a short but wholesome dinner offering.

Cons: If you are unlucky to get a room with “private bathroom” then be aware that this is not shared with anyone but it is a way down the corridor and a robe/slippers is not provided.

Beautiful traditional Lakeland hotel ideally situated for exploring the surrounding fells.

Pros: Beautiful Great Langdale valley location encased by the surrounding fells. Friendly staff, fantastic proper British food with big portions. Cosy and traditional vibe, I love that residents have the option of a quieter dining area and the snug lounge with comfy chairs by the fire.

Cons: My only pick up is that my mattress was very hard, but it certainly won’t stop me returning.

This is one of our special hotels so we will return again in the future.

Pros: Breakfast was great - the other food was very good and tasty. The only negative for us was that the couple in the next door room has two dogs with them and they were quite noisy at times. However, being a trekking hotel one has to expect certain of the guests will bring their dogs with them.

Pros: ive stayed at the old dungeon twice now value for money when you consider its location it has that presence about it like it is steeped in history the log fire and christmas tree in the guest lounge so cozy i will be back again very soon and would recomend

Pros: Location. Staff. Down to earth. No fuss - comfy bed, hearty food, helpful staff and a great location.

Cons: Sometimes had to wait to get someone’s attention at reception or the residents bar.

Probably the best location to stay on the Langdale Valley

Pros: This is a lovely period hotel ideally situated in the Langdale valley. It hasn't changed that much on the outside from the pics taken in the early 1900s. Its an old building so dont expect glitz but it makes up for this with genuine character. The room we had was a good size with a double and a single bed. The en-suite was a good size with ample hot water. The drawing room is lively and cosy especially in the winter when the fire is roaring. The public bar is a popular watering hole for locals and walkers. There is a regular wednesday folk club and the occasional impromptu music from visitors. There is a residents lounge for dining and drinking when the public bar gets busy. The menu is simple and done well and the breakfast sets you up for the day. Last but not least, the staff were all lovely, friendly and effective. What are you waiting for ...

Cons: Apart from the lakes drizzle, there was nothing to dislike with the property and the staff.

Pros: An excellent hotel at the end of a quiet valley with superb rooms , excellent bathrooms , very warm , with real fires in bar and lounge.The service is superb, the food in the bar is superb , the range of beers and wines is excellent and the craic is even better .

Cons: The weather was very wet !! There's nothing not to like at the hotel .
