In the small village of Great Clifton, on the west coast of the Cumbrian Lake District, this charming inn was converted from a 17th-century farmstead and offers comfortable, characteristic accommodation in en-suite rooms with tea and coffee-making facilities, including a complementary full Cumbrian grill breakfast. Pre new year break

Pros: Hotel was welcoming, very clean and staff were friendly. Food here was amazing, cooked to order from quality local produce. Would visit again without hesitation

Lovely countryside gem

Pros: The staff, food and drink was fantastic, very accommodating and friendly, cannot fault this place and a pity more places can’t learn from the staff here

Very nice stay, great breakfast, but staff member's shirt was too small.

Pros: The family room was great as they had the perfect number of beds for my wife and I and our 3 younger children. We had to rent a separate room for our 13 year old, but it was reasonably priced. The breakfast was very good and well presented, but the staff member serving the food had a shirt about 3 sizes too small and it was not very appetising to see his belly hanging out between his trousers and shirt.

Very surprising, don’t judge a book by it’s cover

Pros: The staff were very friendly and the food was unbelievably good and exceptional value for money

Cons: Shower was cold but as soon as I mentioned it, it was sorted for the next time

Great place to stay and eat if just passing by.

Pros: Both the evening meals and the Cumbrian breakfast were huge (almost too big) and the food itself was fantastic and really tasty. Clean room and bathroom.

Cons: Bathroom was a bit on the small side, but was functional.
